Research project
Shift2SDV
In the software-defined vehicle, new functions no longer arrive with a new control unit but as a software update over the air. Shift2SDV builds a shared European basis for this: a middleware and API framework on which carmakers, suppliers and technology providers can develop, deliver and run vehicle software together. The project builds on the HAL4SDV ecosystem.
Our contribution
We study how digital twins can secure over-the-air updates. Before a new version of a software component reaches the vehicle, a digital twin compares it with the previous version, including how it behaves at run time. What stands out is handed to the intrusion detection system in the vehicle. This way, tampered components, for example through dependency poisoning, can be caught early in the delivery chain, and a new version can be checked for anomalies before it reaches a vehicle.
Partners and funding
The consortium of 69 partners, among them carmakers, suppliers, technology providers, universities and research institutions, is coordinated by Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH (Graz). More on the project website.
The project is supported by the Chips Joint Undertaking and its members under grant agreement No 101194245, with national co-funding from Germany and other countries. Funded by the European Union.
