Research project
Rigoletto
With electrification and automated driving, the software in vehicles is growing fast, to an estimated billion lines of code by 2030. The established architecture of many separate control units can no longer keep up. Future vehicles concentrate their computing power in a few fully programmable domain and zonal controllers.
Rigoletto (RISC-V Generation of High Performance Automotive Processors and Computing Platforms) lays the foundation for a European automotive hardware platform based on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture. It develops processor cores, AI accelerators, interconnects, memory hierarchies, peripherals and design tools across several performance classes. A jointly developed reference platform is to be interoperable and safety-certifiable and to avoid fragmentation.
Rigoletto is part of the European RISC-V ecosystem, alongside projects such as TRISTAN and ISOLDE, and supports the industry-led Vehicle of the Future initiative.
