Research project

AIMS5.0

The crises of recent years have shown how vulnerable long supply chains are. AIMS5.0 (Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing leading to Sustainability and Industry5.0) aims to strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty in sustainable production. It brings AI-enabled hardware and software into the whole industrial value chain, on the way from Industry 4.0 to a human-centric, climate-friendly Industry 5.0.

  • AI-enabled hardware components, AI tools and algorithms
  • Architectures for systems of systems and micro-services, semantic modelling and an open platform
  • Acceptance, trust and ethics when using AI in production
  • Validation in 20 use cases from nine industrial domains

Our contribution

The University of Lübeck, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mladen Berekovic, co-leads with Infineon the work package components for the edge: AI-enabled edge components, sensor fusion with AI inference, AI accelerators that meet requirements on low power, reliability, fault tolerance and cost, and a test and validation environment for digital twins of the sensor node. We wrote the exploration of hardware components for the edge processing platform (deliverable D1.1).

Partners and funding

53 partners coordinated by Infineon Technologies AG, among them BMW, NXP, Philips, Thales, TTTech, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, TU Eindhoven and TU Dresden. More on the project website.

Supported by the Key Digital Technologies Joint Undertaking (now Chips Joint Undertaking) under Horizon Europe, grant agreement No 101112089, and by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (then BMBF). Funded by the European Union.
