Bachelor's & Master's Thesis

Guideline for Organizing a Bachelor's/Master's Thesis

1. Find a Topic

  • Tip: Ensure that the topic is specific enough to be completed within the given timeframe but also provides enough material for the work.

2. Find a First and Second Examiner

  • Description: Contact potential first and second examiners who have expertise in your topic. Arrange an initial meeting to discuss the topic and confirm their willingness to supervise.
  • Tip: Examiners should be both professionally qualified and accessible. Good communication is key.

3. Topic Registration

  • Description: Officially register the topic with your examination office. You will find all the necessary forms and addresses for registering your thesis here.
  • Tip: Inform yourself early about the exact deadlines and required documents.

4. Writing the Bachelor's/Master's Thesis until Completion

  • Tip: Pay attention to the formal requirements for your bachelor's/master's thesis. You can find the necessary information among the forms. Additionally, you can find a template for bachelor's/master's theses here.

5. Submission of the Thesis

  • Timing: Deadline according to the examination regulations
  • Note: A total of three bound copies (no spiral binding!) must be prepared for submission: one for the first examiner, one for the second examiner, and one for the examination office. All copies and digital media must be submitted to the examination office by the given deadline, where the receipt will be recorded.
  • Note: A digital version of the thesis (USB stick or CD) must also be submitted.
  • Note: The thesis must include a summary in both German and English.
  • Note: The thesis must be accompanied by a signed statutory declaration.
  • "Ich versichere an Eides statt, die vorliegende Arbeit selbstständig und nur unter Benutzung der angegebenen Quellen und Hilfsmittel angefertigt zu haben." (The German version is sufficient here!)

6. Colloquium

  • Timing: After submission
  • Description: Prepare a presentation in which you present the key findings of your thesis and answer questions from the examiners.
  • Note (Bachelor's Thesis): The colloquium and evaluation should take place within 4 weeks after the submission of the bachelor's thesis.
  • Note (Master's Thesis): The colloquium should take place within one month after the evaluations have been submitted.
  • Tip: You can find the necessary documents for registration under the Bachelor's and Master's forms.

7. Grade Announcement
