Kay Römer ist Professor am Institut für Technische Informatik der Universität zu Lübeck. Ferner ist er am Institut für Pervasive Computing der ETH Zürich tätig. Nach Abschluss seines Informatik-Studiums an der Universität Frankfurt/Main im Jahre 1999 wechselte Kay Römer für das Doktorat an die ETH Zürich, wo er 2005 mit einer Arbeit über Drahtlose Sensornetze promovierte. Von 2005 bis 2009 leitete er die Forschungsaktivitäten der Professur "Verteilte Systeme" im Bereich der Drahtlosen Sensornetze. Prof. Römer's Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt im Bereich der vernetzten eingebetteten Systeme, insbesondere auf Drahtlosen Sensornetzen, Pervasive Computing und dem Internet der Dinge.
